The Maison Martin Margiela lookbook is out today! On the plus side, it looks like MMM fully kept the house’s aesthetic intact for the fast fashion retailer. Unfortunately, it looks like MMM fully kept the house’s aesthetic intact for the fast fashion retailer. Because let’s be real: MMM clothes are not easy to wear! Now that they’re actually going to be accessible, it’s important to figure out which pieces will work for you. But first, let’s see what we’re working with:
How can you translate these pieces to your real closet? Take a look:
Beginner
The “Oversize Turtleneck” is a great, easy piece, but to wear it with baggy pants is beyond unflattering. Instead, wear it over skinny cords and studded moto boots for a laidback look. (Gap skinny cords, $69.95; Fiorentini & Baker studded boots, $545.)
Intermediate
The “Hitched Up Skirt” is a lot to look at, but temper the volume by color-blocking a blue column with a silk blouse. Keep the fun factor and add a pop of color with mustard yellow wedges. For bonus points, color block with a printed blue blouse. (Equipment blouse, $207; Equipment printed blouse, $230; J. Crew printed blouse, $128; Rosegold wedges, $178.)
Advanced
The “Skirt over Trouser” seems to be a trending topic. Streamline the look with simply cut, silk sequin top, or add another layer of intrigue (literally) with a peplum blouse. As for shoes, simple black or navy ballet flats will do. (Diane von Fustenberg sequin top, $385; Anthropologie peplum blouse, $178; J. Crew ballet flats, $138.)
Expert
This sweater. With anything. Just be prepared to explain to people why it looks like an animal tore it apart and a kindergartener sewed it back together.
These are just a few of the clothes. There are a huge array of accessories in the collection as well – 100 items total! You can head over to Refinery 29, Racked, or Fashionista to check out the entire collection. Are you excited for the Maison Martin Margiela with H&M collaboration? What piece do you want most for your closet?
