The Shoes of Summer

Like everyone else in the blogosphere it seems, I’m getting antsy for a change in the weather. Between being restricted by the 30×30 and the endless rain we’ve had in San Francisco, I’m going shoe stir-crazy. You’d think it would be enough to move beyond 6 pairs of shoes plus rain boots, but I need more. I can’t just return to my closet, I have to add to it. Like migrant animals that are drawn towards the same location every year, I’m feeling drawn towards new shoes.

Clockwise from top left: Maurie and Eve Creeper Wedge, $249, idontlikemondays.us. Surface to Air Open Wedge, $525, ssense.com. Steven Wyllow Wedge Oxford Espadrilles, $140, shopbop.com. Plomo Nicoletta Bow Tall Sandal, $297, needsupply.com. Toms Kenya Stripe Wedges, $69, toms.com. Opening Ceremony Violet Strap Cut-Out Clog, $450, openingceremony.us. Toms Elephants Classics, $54, toms.com. Sam Edelman Ionia Patent Slingback, $110, nordstrom.com.

I’m feeling canvas, bright colors, menswear details, and things with straps. The ones I want the most, by Surface to Air and Opening Ceremony, are of course the most expensive. The pink strappy Opening Ceremony wedge/clog thing is potentially the most difficult to walk in (5” heel, 1.5” platform), but that’s what makes them fun! Personally I find that heels with a wedge and/or platform are far more manageable than a stiletto. In fact I’m over stilettos… but bring on the platform wedges!

I’m 5’2″ which makes me an instant fan of the wedge. How cute are the coral ones with the cut out!?

Can anyone tell me what would be the most suitable footwear for May in San Francisco? I am visiting for 4 days and was thinking maybe ankle boots with a fairly flat heel that could be worn with jeans. Just want to make sure that weather wise they will not be too hot to wear. Thanks

You shouldn’t have to worry about it being too hot in May. We may be lucky and get a full weekend with temps in the 70s, but probably not. I checked http://www.sftravel.com/sanfranciscoweather.html and it looks like the average high for May is 64, and the average low is 51. Summer here doesn’t really kick in until August.
