30×30 #4, 12, 17 – The “SBD”, or Simple Black Dress

You’ve heard of the “LBD”, the Little Black Dress. Her daytime sister is the “SBD”, the Simple Black Dress. A tomboy compared to her chic sister, the SBD is nevertheless just as useful. You can keep it simple and let the dress shine, or use it as a foil underneath something more showy.

#17, #4

On the left I took the SBD to its chicer side, while on the right I went Western.

#12

I have to admit, I didn’t like this outfit at all. I specifically wanted to wear accessories that conjured up nature or possibly being in the jungle, but I didn’t have the proper shoes! I have two pairs of shoes that would have completed the outfit so well, but they weren’t in my 30×30. So compared to patent black leather flats with gold hardware, sparkly silver was the next logical choice. I suppose I could have then modified my other accessories, but I was determined to wear them. Even if the shoes ruined everything.

Dress: the Gap
#17: belt, vintage; ring, Banana Republic; heels, Aldo.
#4: sweater, vintage; boots, vintage Frye; necklace as bracelet, gift from Brazil.
#12: necklace, super old; bracelet/cuff, gift from South Africa; flats, Loeffler Randall.

The western look is my fave. That’s such a great sweater.

Great dress. I love it with the belt in # 17.

LOVING those flats! Who said you need heels to dress up a LBD?

I need a dress like this in my life. I used to have an amazing black tshirt dress that I wore for everything. It got old and ruined and I had to throw it out, and I’ve not been able to replace it yet but this has reminded me that I should try harder!

I love all the looks. I agree that the shoes don’t really work in the last look but kudos for the accessories! Also love that chunky sweater, looks super cosy.
