Morocco: Yves Saint Laurent and Les Jardins Majorelles

One of the most beautiful spots we visited in all of Morocco – which is a visually arresting country – was Les Jardins Majorelles. The vibrant colors were much appreciated in contrast to the dusty orange of the rest of Marrakesh.

I was particularly inspired by the yellow flower pot with the purple shrub. Yellow and purple is one of my favorite color combinations and I’m determined to recreate this at home.

The Majorelle gardens (opened in 1947) are named after their creator, Jacques Majorelle, but in 1980 the grounds were bought and restored by Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Bergé. The garden has a museum that houses the Islamic art collection of Saint Laurent and Bergé but unfortunately it was closed. Luckily we were able to view the Yves Saint Laurent memorial.

Some of my favorite “Love” posters:

The garden itself was beautiful, and the opportunity to see these personal creations of Yves Saint Laurent was such an incredible bonus!

Ooohh! I went to visit the gardens a few years ago too, they are gorgeous. Did you know that you can buy a small container of the blue paint that is everywhere in the gift shop? Apparently the foundation owns the rights to that exact color and nobody else is allowed to use it in Morocco unless the buy it there. Crazy!

Check out my Morocco photos on my Flickr.

oh man, I didn’t see that! I wonder if it was in the gift shop of the building that was closed. I’ll just have to go back! 😉

Does anyone know if it’s possible (and if so, where) to order the YSL Love posters?

I don’t, but have you tried googling it, or going to allposters.com?
