Leify Landscapes

*updated 3/15*

I love scarves. I’ve been devoted since my junior year of high school, when my mom bought me a hot pink scarf to match my hot pink ombre prom dress (a classy hot pink). So I was super excited when the lovely ladies of Cake Plate boutique in Napa Valley offered to send me a scarf – a Leifsdottir scarf. I adore prints, and Leifsdottir designer Johanna Uurasjarvi infuses her brand with the most charming and winsome prints. While I have a good number of scarves, they one they sent me is delightfully different from all the other ones I own. It felt lush, full of beauty and fantasy; like a secret garden. Being unlike anything else I have, I knew I had to wear it a special way. I decided to make a turban.

Or the best I could do. I actually googled it, and dutifully watched the video three or four times. But when it came to tucking the tail back into the top, it was nothing but lumpy and misshapen. Not the exotic, glam look I was going for. So I left it out. Plus I didn’t want to be late meeting a friend for Rock of Ages (at the Curran Theater). My turban lasted maybe half an hour before falling out, and then went into phase two:

Side flower! My friend didn’t think I was serious about being seen in public like this, but I was. It was fun! I wore the scarf a third way during the after-party for Rock of Ages.

The scarf was so much fun I wore it Saturday as well.

Now, Cake Plate sending me a Leifsdottir scarf is no coincidence. Through April 1st they’re hosting a Leifsdottir pop-up shop within their boutique. As if you needed any more excuses to visit Napa Valley, be sure to check out the boutique after a day of wine tasting.

But if you’re like me and find it difficult to wrangle both a car and a group of people (at the same time) to visit wine country, you’re in luck! Cake Plate is coming to San Francisco. On April 7th I’ll be co-hosting the Cake Plate Spring 2011 Dress Collection launch at the Crown & Crumpet Tea Room in Ghiradelli Square. We’re celebrating the launch of the new CP by Cake Plate Spring 2011 Ready-to-Wear Dress Collection. We will also feature a trunk show debuting the Milly, Lauren Moffatt, and Lulu Frost Spring 2011 collections. In addition to fabulous clothes, wine from Husic vineyards, hors d’oeuvres, and an amazing view of the bay, guests will also receive a gift bag stocked with fashion and beauty items from brands such as Estee Lauder, Redkin, Donna Karen, and more. Look out for the official invitation coming soon.

I loooove the first look! So colourful and perfect with the black dress. I’d love to be able to wear scarf turbans like that, but they don’t suit my colourings and I end up looking like a cancer patient. It’s a horrible thing to say but it’s true.

My mum is a big fan of neck scarves as in your third look, I should try the same 🙂

I love that you have all these items from Morocco! I served in the Peace Corps there. Did you try tying your scarf like the Moroccan women? Twist out the ends and then wrap into the bun at the nape of your neck–functional and super chic (admittedly the silkier the scarf, the tougher it is to make it stay!). Good luck!

I haven’t tried it that way yet, but great suggestion! I loved Morocco! It was 5 months ago that I was there, but still feels like yesterday.
