Fresh Face: Alyssa Nicole

In a this weather-wrought city sartorially known for its hipsters and hippies, and where layering isn’t a trend but a necessity, Alyssa Nicole’s lighthearted confections are a sweet breath of fresh air. Originally from Hughson, CA (a small farm town in the Central Valley), she now calls the Bay Area home. MTV filmed her for a documentary in August and she showed at New York Fashion Week shortly thereafter. Oh, and did I mention she’s only 19?

Her first few lines debuted drenched in color, but even in neutrals her clothing has a fresh feel. Take, for example, her Autumn/Winter 2010 line:

I first met Alyssa Nicole at DNA’s Shop Social event in May.

I was really impressed by her line and even found the perfect dress –  albeit for an event I had attended a few months earlier (don’t you hate when that happens?) Let me show you what else she has up her sleeve:

Clearly, Alyssa Nicole builds exuberance into whatever she makes. Which is just what San Francisco needs. You can find Alyssa Nicole on her website Alyssa Bird, Etsy, Facebook, or Twitter.

Her clothes are beautiful Adelle (peter pan collars, brocade-y fabrics and extended pink tulle underskirts — my heart sighs happily!) and she is pretty gorgeous herself as well (I adore her fascinator). How awesome that she has achieved such success and proficiency at such a young age; I can only imagine where she’ll be in a couple years! And even more awesome that she is a Bay Area native 🙂

And ah…I found perfect dresses for our ’40s holiday party and the circus holiday party months after I attended them, so I know the frustration you mention about finding perfect dresses for events months earlier all too well! 🙂 I’m almost disappointed btw that this year’s doesn’t really have a theme at all (or even a formal dress code, sigh) — takes away part of the challenge! However, you can’t beat the location, so I’ll keep my complaints to myself.
