lets talk about comfortable bras! I call them weekend bras.

Let’s Get Comfortable: My Guide to Weekend Bras

I’m wearing the Real Underwear Contour Wireless Fusion Bra

What is a “weekend bra” you ask? It could also be called a “quarantine bra”. It’s a bra that you probably wouldn’t wear to work, but you would definitely wear on the weekend – maybe to the park, an outdoor brunch, running errands, etc. You don’t want to wear your padded, underwired, full-coverage workweek bra, but you still need something. Maybe to lift you up, absorb sweat, smooth outlines, or protect against nipple chafe (there, I said it). Especially being unemployed during quarantine, wearing a bra can help me feel normal. It’s like taking a shower or putting on makeup or jewelry — not necessarily something I do every day, but the routine aspect of it can be helpful. One other thing: I do NOT endorse bralettes. Bralettes are really the worst of all possible worlds. They let you droop AND they flatten you out. Why would you do that to yourself?

I have a number of weekend bras, but these are the top three I recommend for anyone just starting to build your “weekend bra” wardrobe.

Smoothest Line:
Real Underwear – Contour Wireless Fusion Bra

I’ve been – gasp – going on dates lately, and in order to be socially distanced they all take place outside. I want to look nice, have the support, the smooth lines, etc, but I still need to stay cool. This wireless bra gets the job done 100%. This is also the most “real bra”-like of my weekend bras. So if you’re someone who hates regular bras, or say, only spends $20 on your regular bra, get this into your rotation, stat.

Most versatile:
Uniqlo Airism Relax Wireless Bra

I generally don’t like sports bras because I hate wrestling them on and off my body. In fact, when I work out I almost exclusively wear a front-zip sports bra. I feel like this Airism wireless bra isn’t even a sports bra, but if it is, it’s one I actually like wearing. This one I bought specifically for my last trip to Morocco because I needed something that I knew would keep me cool and comfortable. And you know what? If a shower isn’t in your plans, you can fall asleep in this, wake up and get up and go. Is that gross? I don’t know. But it’s real. This is the bra I turn to first for travel days. It is also great to wear under dresses that are cut low or the side or the back – it just provides a little extra coverage. Bonus: you can take out the lightly padded cups if you want (I never do).

Best all-around: ThirdLove Seamless Lounge Bra

My regular bras are almost exclusively ThirdLove, and their seamless lounge bra has become an integral part of my weekend bra wardrobe. It has hooks and eyes like a regular bra, and you have the option of taking out the lightly padded cups (although I never do). Insanely soft and comfortable, it is truly the easiest thing to wear.

So there you have it. If you are wearing a bra at all these days, make sure it’s a weekend bra!
