Wearing this amazing fruit print kimono jumpsuit – with a matching turban – onboard a Norwegian Bliss cruise ship was a delicious slice of fashion fate.

  • Saw this jumpsuit on Instagram
  • Realized I had a matching turban that I bought several years ago
  • Connected the dots to the Norwegian Bliss ship tour on my calendar

In hindsight it seems obvious, but it didn’t immediately click. I have a couple of warm weather trips in the next six months, so obviously a fruity, fabulous, summer jumpsuit was something I should buy. Plus, sometimes I forget to be excited about things until they’re about to happen.

Luckily, I’m blessed with a coworker who loves to discuss fashion (and beauty and reality tv) as much as I do; and she reminded me that we needed to plan our outfits for the cruise. I showed her one of the dresses I had in mind and that was definitely accessible in my closet (for whatever reason half of my summer dresses stayed up in my closet during the winter, and the other half are… somewhere…). Then she was like, what about the JUMPSUIT? And I was like OMG YES.

Serving the lewk, as the kids say (are the kids saying that?), required preparation. I had to:

  • Find my summer shoes
  • Give myself a pedicure
  • Braid my hair to fit under the turban

I didn’t time myself, but those three things could easily have taken three hours to do, especially since I did them while binge-watching Southern Charm. If it was three hours, it was three hours well spent! In fact, that very evening some last minute plans sprang up and I was like uh, can’t make it. #sorrynotsorry

The results:

I felt FABULOUS and got a steady stream of compliments. What more could you ask for?

Details:

The fruit print kimono jumpsuit is from ASOS and available in sizes regular, tall, and curve. The earrings are by Wilde, via Rocksbox. I purchased the Eugenia Kim turban foreverrrr ago, and I can’t find anything like it. But I did find a couple more pairs of fun, thematic earrings by Elizabeth Cole and J.Crew.

I also had fun with my makeup. I’m starting to explore the world of tinted moisturizers and CC creams. I’m wearing IT COSMETICS Your Skin But Better™ CC+Illumination™ Cream in Deep. So far I like it. I gave my brows a little bit of presence with my trusty Boy Brow and I PUT ON FAKE EYELASHES. For a long time I preferred individual lashes to wrangling a lash strip, but with the strip you obvi get more bang for your buck (in this case buck = physical effort). I’m wearing Velour lashes and I’m a fan. On my lips I’m wearing one of my new favorite combinations: Nars lipstick in Red Lizard layered with YSL’s Tatouage Couture Liquid Matte Lip Stain in Rouge Tatouage. It makes for a perfect, long-lasting, super-red lip.

Fashion is fun. It’s not fun everyday, when all my clothes seem to have shrunk and I’m trying to guess at the weather and see if my cranky knee will let me wear heels or not (probably not). But when I have an occasion, time to plan my look, and especially someone to conspire with, that’s prime fashion fun. What about you – when was the last time you had fun with fashion?
