I was so excited to kick off last weekend with BRIKA‘s launch at Makeshift Society. In part because I’ve been curious about Makeshift Society ever since they launched a couple of months ago. Plus, getting excited about a cool, new website seems like a great way to end the work week (I have one of those now!). Pronounced ‘bree-ka’, founders Kena and Jen met a couple of years ago, became friends, and knew they wanted to work together. The two kept meeting, and finally the right opportunity presented itself. BRIKA aims to help you discover interesting, one-of-a-kind items produced in small batches. They feature the actual artisans on the site as well, and sometimes offer exclusive pieces. The site just launched today, so I’m just as excited as you are to see what’s actually in store.
1, 2, 3. Light-hearted and crafty decor set the mood.
4. Founders Kena Paranjape and Jennifer Koss describe BRIKA’s beginnings. Hm, is Jennifer wearing Clover Canyon?
5. One of the sites featured artisans, Shana Frase, was in attendance. And so was her mother, who so appreciated the kind words said about her daughter that she was moved to tears (I wouldn’t have noticed but she announced it to the room. It was touching).
6. Well, this goes without saying.
Speaking of the weekend, the day after the BRIKA event I experienced a bit of magic at H&M. Remember how I lamented missing out on a couple of the Margiela pieces? I ended up returning one of my turtlenecks (instead of selling on eBay), and found the magnificent patent red, lucite heels in my size! It was fashion fate!
