{Trending Topic} Turbans

I almost wish I had a how-to video, but it may be better that I don’t. When I first tried doing a turban a couple of years ago I watched several YouTube tutorials, none of which were helpful. I pretty much gave up after that. Until last month when a woman I had just met (and whose turban I complimented) told me that it was easier than it looked, so I tried it again. It was totally fine. You just start with a scarf at the front or back of your head (depending on the size of the scarf and what your preference is), wrap it around, and keep wrapping it around until there’s not enough scarf left for a full wrap. Tie the remaining scarf into a knot, tuck in loose ends, and you’re good to go! After a few weeks of turban tying, I’d say there are really just a couple of things to remember:

1. The coarser the scarf, the better. I’m not saying to put sandpaper on your head, of course. A silk scarf will slip and be hard to wrangle, while a cotton scarf will be clingy, and thus easier to tie. If you absolutely must use a silk scarf, anchor it in place with hairpins while you wrap it up and try taking them out once you’re finished.

2. Don’t worry about the loose ends at the end of your turban. They’re easy to hide! Just stick them under the folds that were created from wrapping the turban around your head.

And voilà: you have a turban! For more inspiration, check out the scarves below.

If you give it a try I’d love to see your photos. Post them to the Fashionista Lab Facebook wall, or on Twitter/Instagram and cc @FashionistaLab.
