Who knew that three years ago, when Anna Wintour dreamed up Fashion’s Night Out as a way to get shoppers back in stores, that it would become a global kick-off for fashion week? People all over the country, and the world are throwing celebrations. Which should make FNO the largest, most fashionable pep rally the world has ever seen. San Francisco is no slouch, and there are enough goings-on to make your head spin. In an effort to bring some sanity to the situation, here are my top 3 events:
Neiman Marcus
Nevermind the fashion, any party that has a photo booth AND a caricature artist is a place I want to be. But to see works from Academy of Art designers a couple of days before their peers show at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week is icing on my party-cake.
Macy’s
A fall fashion closet styled by one of my favorite online reads, The Bold Italic; PLUS the first crop of designers in the Macy’s Fashion Incubator showing their first Incubator-produced collections; PLUS meeting Fashion Star finalist Ronnie Escalante spells out a lot of fashion and a lot of fun.
California Academy of Sciences
If you want to get nerdy about fashion, this is the place! Explore fashion’s past, present and future with vintage dresses and accessories; see the winning retro-inspired designs from ModCloth’s Make the Cut contest; and futuristic eTextiles which weave technology into wearable art. Plus a fashion show featuring S.F.’s best independent designers.
If there is a specific store you’re wondering has an event, you can search and browse events in the FNO directory. For more information on the above events or more of my San Francisco picks, you can check out the sidebar on the right or click here.
