The Neccessary Equipment, Thanks to Moda Operandi

How many of you are familiar with the website Moda Operandi? The site launched over a year ago with the intention of giving shoppers the opportunity to buy clothes straight from the runway. See, the problem was that women would see amazing pieces on the runway, but not everything from the runway makes it into department stores. That’s when I stopped paying attention. Not having enough access to runway fashion has never been one of my concerns. BUT. I recently entered to win a shopping spree at Moda Operandi, and – not surprisingly – I began to receive emails from them shortly thereafter. And lo! Today I saw an Equipment trunk show.

Equipment is no Gap, but it’s certainly not the likes of Marchesa or Jean Paul Gaultier either. It’s a little more accessible, and has a major cult following. Fashionista.com recently reported that Moda Operandi is launching more traditional (“in-season”) e-commerce in November. I wonder if they’ll ramp up their offering of “bridge” lines such as Equipment, or if they’ll continue to focus on the highest of high-end. Either way, there is one thing that makes Moda Operandi more accessible, regardless of price points: the model of pre-ordering and paying half up front essentially makes the clothing available on layaway.

Given the price point of Equipment shirts, it is tempting to put down half now and pay the rest later. What do you think – would you ever pre-order your clothes, or do you prefer to wait until they hit the stores? Peep the slideshow below to get more acquainted with Equipment.

I’ve ordered from them on three separate occasions, one being an Equipment blouse a few months ago. I also purchased an Elizabeth and James top as well as my Alexander Wang Rocco Satchel. Every time I have ordered, I had a promotion code of $100 or more to use to offset the costs. It’s a great company, awesome customer service, beautiful packaging, and in my opinion, worth it. The half now, half later is great for budgeting in quality items. The only drawback is the wait :).

Thanks for weighing in! I had a code for $100 off too (a welcome gift), and so of course I used it for an Equipment shirt today. I hope there are more of those in my future 😉 Also, I didn’t realize they had featured Equipment before. I’m clearly late to the game!
