So the 4th of July is on a Wednesday this year… awkward. I don’t work in an office so it doesn’t really affect me, but a friend of mine just gets that day off. A random Wednesday, smack dab in the middle of the week (as Wednesday always is), seems to be the most confusing day for a holiday to occur. I was recently advising a friend in Chicago about what she should do for the 4th, and I’m a huge fan of the way that city does it: Chicago proper does municipal fireworks on the 3rd, leaving the 4th open for all the various suburbs that make up the Chicagoland area. Even better: the symphony plays along to the fireworks – the best way to view that them I’ve ever experienced. Wherever you are this Independence Day, know that it’s possible to be stylish and patriotic at the same time.
