Met Gala Red Carpet – The Showstoppers

Even though I love the Met Gala red carpet, I wasn’t going to do a recap this year. I woke up late and figured that by the time I got a post up, the internet would have already moved on. But then some friends got into a heated Facebook discussion about it, and they asked me to weigh in. So here’s my take on last night’s Met Gala red carpet. These aren’t the best or the worst, per se, just what I think were the showstoppers – both good and bad. Oh, and just to warn you, I’ve been going through some Cher red carpet nostalgia lately, so she’s kind of what I measured everyone else by.

Anna Wintour, because… is that a lobster on your dress? (Prada)

Amber Heard, because her train looks like a train wreck. (Zac Posen)

Bianca Brandolini D’Adda, because I love the 70s and this is a baby Cher moment. (Dolce & Gabbana)

Elizabeth Banks, because this looks like something Effie might wear! (Mary Katrantzou)

Karolina Kurkova, because this IS a Cher moment. (Rachel Zoe Collection)

Sarah Jessica Parker. I’m sorry, I love you, but Chloe Sevigny already did the Prairie look. Speaking of… (Valentino)

Chloe Sevigny, because she does what she wants, and I respect her for that. (Miu Miu)

Anja Rubik, for attempting Angelina’s right leg (although Angie does it best). (Anthony Vaccarello)

Florence Welch, because she’s so awesome she can pull this off. (Alexander McQueen)

Leighton Meester, because unfortunate tan aside, this dress was the most gorgeous one of the entire evening. (Marchesa)

Renée Zellweger, because it looks like she’s having a moment. (Pucci)

Jessica Stam, because more red carpet gowns should be this exquisite. (Dior Haute Couture)

Beyonce. Cher moment!!! (Givenchy Haute Couture by Ricardo Tisci)

Marion Cotillard, because this is the dress I would most want to wear. (Dior)

Diane Kruger, because I dig the proportions on the dress. I passed it up at first, but the more I look, the more I like. (Prada)

Linda Fargo, because this is a night to celebrate a fashion, and she got the memo to go all out. (Naeem Khan)

Caroline Sieber. I don’t know who she is or who she’s wearing, but is this not the perfect spring dress?!

China Chow. Get it, girl! Bring some art back into fashion.
