Your ‘Marni at H&M’ Buying Guide

The Marni at H&M collection is the most exciting collaboration since Missoni for Target, but don’t let that distract you from making good choices. The most important thing to remember (unless you plan to sell items on eBay*) is: limit your purchase to 3 items. It doesn’t sound like much, I know, but trust me. Working more than 3 distinctive items into your wardrobe will be a challenge, and you’ll likely end up either forgetting about the rest of what you bought, or being overwhelmed by it. Secondary to that, you have to buy the right things. What’s right for you? What’s your comfort level with prints – beginner, intermediate or advanced?

BEGINNER

The key as a beginner is to choose items that you can easily match with items in your wardrobe. The green sweater would look cute with blue jeans and boots, while the printed top goes great with skinny jeans and heels, for a night out. At the very, very, least, opt for a printed accessory to liven up a neutral outfit.

INTERMEDIATE

These are great pieces if you’re ready to mix it up a bit more. Try a bolder print – and more of it. White accessories can be daunting, but they make any outfit feel both more fresh and sophisticated at the same time. Give it a shot!

ADVANCED

Leather has been all over the runways for several seasons now, but it’s still not something you find a lot of in the mall. When an awesome leather top stares you in the face, buy it. There are a few pieces in the collection that offer a surprise in the back, so you can make an entrance AND an exit. Those are my favorite pieces in the collection.

If you don’t like prints, there are a few solid and color-blocked pieces in this collection. But if you don’t like prints… Marni at H&M is probably not the collaboration for you.

Marni at H&M becomes available this Thursday, March 8th. Remember:
3 items or less!

*I decided to give up shopping for Lent, which means I’m missing out on Marni at H&M. Major sadface. But I wouldn’t be opposed to a kind soul who might happen to buy an extra piece and offer to sell it to me after Easter…
