Looking through photos of this year’s Golden Globes’ red carpet, I noticed several trends. Thankfully no woman wore the same gown, but some came close. Who wore the trends better?
Animal Print
WINNER: Evan Rachel Wood in Gucci Premiere
Runners up: Michelle Williams in Jason Wu, Maya Rudolph in David Meister Signature. If you’re going to go wild on the red carpet (so to speak), you may as well really go for it. Why stick to one animal? Or is there a mythical creature that has both scales and feathers?
Yellow
WINNER: Maria Menounos
Runners up: Paula Patton in Monique Lhuillier, Mirelle Enos in Naeem Khan. Yellow is a color that naturally glows, but Maria Menounos’ dress looks like liquid sunshine.
Frothy Footer
WINNER: Helen Mirren in Badgley Mischka
Runners up: Mary J. Blige in Michael Kors, Tina Fey in Oscar de la Renta. This kind of dress always feels fun, and it’s a great compromise if you can’t decide between fitted and feathered.
Fishtail
WINNER: Tilda Swinton in Haider Ackerman
Runners up: Reese Witherspoon in Zac Posen, Sofia Vergara in Vera Wang. The fishtail is a dramatic shape, so it looks best when the color story is simple. I love the colors in Sofia Vergara’s gown, but the different textures distracts from the beautiful shape and color. And is it just me, or does Tilda Swinton look like a Greek statue come to life?
Glee
WINNER: Dianna Agron in Giles Deacon
Runners up: Lea Michele in Marchesa, Amber Riley in Badgley Mischka. I stopped watching Glee so I don’t know the latest high school hierarchy, but while all the ladies look good, the Chief Cheerio (Dianna Agron) is on top.
Beige also happened to be a huge hit this year, which is ironic because that shade is such a snooze. At least 12 actresses wore beige gowns this year. They must have looked better in person than in the photos. Of all the trends, which one was your favorite? And who do you think wore their trend the best?
