Now that Christmas/Hanukkah/the yearly gift-giving binge has passed, it’s time to think about celebrating New Year’s Eve. And more importantly – what to wear on New Year’s Eve! Here are some helpful Do’s and Don’t that should help guide you as you plan your outfit most hyped night of the year.
- Do wear something shiny: glitter, sequins, beads, patent leather, anything metallic or studded.
- Do keep it simple, limiting the above to a few elements – not your entire outfit.
- Don’t buy an entirely new outfit. It’s important to wear at least a couple of pieces that are familiar.
- Don’t make outerwear (jacket, scarf, etc) an integral part of your outfit unless you’re partying outside (ie, Times Square).
- Do stay true to yourself. These are some guidelines for how to be festive, but most importantly, be comfortable! In my experience New Year’s Eve is often a night fraught with expectations, and it’s not a good time to be conscious of or worried about what you’re wearing.
Whether you want to spend the night in jeans or sky-high heels, here are some suggestions as you raid your closet and make last-minute trips to the mall.
Low Key, Laid Back
Going Out Glam
I’m still not sure what I’ll be wearing for New Year’s Eve, but sticking with these guidelines I’ll certainly be sporting some sparkle.
