One thing I enjoy about the Pre-Fall collections is an injection of fresh ideas long after the excitement of the September shows has worn off. It can even be more useful than the shows, because Pre-Fall is more in tune with the season we’re actually in. As the new year approaches I encourage you let the Pre-Fall 2012 collections inspire you to re-think your wardrobe, and combine things in a way that you would never consider. Or, when you’re shopping the post-Christmas sales with giftcards you received from Hanukkah or Christmas, let the inspiration from these collections guide you towards pieces you may be hesitant to try! New year, new ideas!
Over the next few days I’ll be sharing my favorites from the Pre-Fall 2012 collections, focusing on pieces that caught my eye with clever prints, artful shapes, or intriguing textures. Many of my favorite pieces exhibited all three! Here are a few examples to get your creative brain juices flowing.
Clever Print, Jason Wu
I love the combination of bold and muted shapes. Given the conservative shape of the dress, if all of the shapes were muted it would be a snoozefest. I like that the mix of tones keeps it classy but playful.
Artful Shape, Calvin Klein
Sometimes an interesting shape can get lost beneath a print, but not here. There’s something about the gently sloped shoulders, clean v-neck lapel, and soft belted waist that is really compelling to me.
Intriguing Texture, Donna Karan
What I absolutely adore about this dress is that the ombre effect contributes to the light and airy texture as much as the chiffon; although the paneling helps too.
Do you like any of these dresses? What speaks to you?
