Meeting THE Martha (Martha Stewart)

Martha Stewart is such an icon she doesn’t need a last name. I prefer to think of her as THE Martha. Like “The Donald”, but way cooler. Not everyone knows this about me, but I love to bake.* Up until recently Klout listed me as an expert on cookies, and the most ambitious recipe I have accomplished to-date is Martha’s  strawberry shortcake. I’ve done it twice, to rave reviews from friends. So of course I was super pysched to receive an invitation to join a small group of bloggers for a champagne brunch at the Four Seasons, followed by a press event at Macy’s with the Martha.

And lest you think the Martha is only an expert on food, she knows a thing or two about fashion as well:

  • She wore leather leggings with zips at the ankle (by Vince, according to this interview).
  • Instead of wearing chef clogs, she wore snakeskin heels. The hole-y floor mat had to be removed so she didn’t get stuck.
  • She dished out this advice during her demo: “Always cook in Michael Kors… and no apron.”
I can’t wait to start going through the recipes in this book, but I’m not ready for full frontal baking. Does Michael Kors make aprons?

*note on baking: I bake gluten-free. If you also have a gluten intolerance or have celiac disease I recommend Pamela’s baking mix for an excellent 1:1 substitution with flour. Martha recommended Bob’s Red Mill flour, as well as Thomas Keller’s Cup for Cup flour.
