Project Runway Prediction: the Final 3

Checking out the results of the Project Runway show during New York Fashion Week, even with 6 decoy presentations (3 of which are already out), it was pretty easy to tell which show was for real and which were the red herrings. Obviously everyone involved with the finale is sworn to secrecy, which makes me wonder: did Tim visit the families of 9 designers so as not to give anything away? Unclear. Anyway, based off their NYFW shows, here’s who I predict will be in, and who will be out.

Viktor – IN

His clothes seem to be well cut and tailored, with a distinct point of view. He’s also become a favorite of the judges so it seems like he would have to make a series of major mistakes to get the boot. Here are my favorite Vikor looks:

Kimberly – OUT

Kimberly was never a huge personality force, but she did some great work in the beginning. I’m also partial to older people who are on the show because the older I get, I find it comforting that I don’t have to accomplish everything while still a young’un. That being said, her collection wasn’t great. There were a few stand-outs, but mostly they were basic pieces that, as the judges have already said of her previous work, could be found at the mall.

Bert – Out

Bert really grew on me. In fact, I always liked him, but wished he weren’t so gruff so I could like him more. And then he became friendly! I would have loved for him to be in the Top 3 but his collection is full of basic, monochromatic pieces; a total snooze-fest. They’re modern, at least, but don’t look like they’re trying to impress the judges.

Laura Kathleen – IN

This Bergdorf Blonde really got on my nerves. Early on in the season she said she grew up around beautiful and expensive things, so she would never send crap down the runway. Her causality seems weak to me, but it appeared to work well enough for her. Although Nina was very critical of her in the last episode, she seemed to eke her way into the top three. Her collection has a strong point of view, and it looks expensive. Here are my favorite Laura looks:

Josh M – OUT

And the “Stinky Attitude Award” aka the “Jeffrey Sebelia Award for Being A Complete Douchebag” goes to Josh M.! I hate when the judges unknowingly reward bad behavior, but I feel confident that Josh will soon get the axe. He toned down the glitz for his NYFW collection, but there are still plenty of incongruous and tacky choices.

Anya – IN

Anya is this season’s Uli, but lucky for her the judges haven’t challenged her to move beyond prints and flowy things. I love that even though she hadn’t even been sewing for  6 months, she’s smart and disciplined enough to be a strong competitor. She has a strong point of view and I love nearly everything she did, even if I don’t have the lifestyle for most of it. Here are my favorite Anya looks:

I rarely make predictions, but I’m confident about who I think will be in the top 3. Who do YOU think will make it? Weigh in, in the comments, and we’ll all start finding out tonight!
