It was hot and sticky in NYC, but I was determined to wear this outfit. I thought it could have been a candidate for a street-style snap at Lincoln Center – I felt very clever for mixing black and brown AND throwing in a jewel tone.
Unfortunately, these formerly trusty platform wedges did a 180, and suddenly became very fussy. Whereas before I had been able to wear them all day without a single problem, on that day they started hurting after walking just a few blocks. Have you ever had the experience where the soles of your feet feel like they’re burning? That’s what it felt like.
So instead of heading up to hang out at Lincoln Center after the Rachel Antonoff presentation, I hobbled to the nearest open space to take off my shoes and coax them into cooperating with my feet.
I was also very proud of the “arm party” that I assembled.
Eventually I left the park to meet up a few friends for Fashion’s Night Out. I wanted to snag a pair of the Missoni for Target flats, just to give my feet some relief, but that didn’t happen. Instead, lurching along the sidewalk to a late dinner, I was able to snag myself some reef sandals. I haven’t yet tried to wear those shoes again, but hopefully what happened that day was just a fluke, and I don’t have to give up my trusty wedges just yet!
