Outfit: Summer Sweater Weather

In H&M on Friday evening I saw a common summer sight: tourist wearing shorts buys a pair of jeans then wears them right out of the store. People visiting San Francisco often seem to find themselves under-dressed and needing another layer; I had to learn this lesson myself. When I lived in Palo Alto I once bought a pair of shoes while spending the weekend with a friend in SF; my feet were freezing in sandals. I remember borrowing a sweater from her as well. I wonder how much of the $8.3 billion tourists spend at local businesses accounts for buying clothes just to stay warm.

Now on my third summer in San Francisco, I’m used to wearing sweaters in July.

And leggings, and boots, and a scarf (not pictured).

I also should have worn a jacket, given that I wore this for an outdoor BBQ. The only thing missing was pockets to warm my freezing hands. It looks like I’m still learning how to dress for the San Francisco “summer” after all.

wow – thanks for the cool weather heads up! I’m flying to the bay area to visit a friend in Oakland soon, and we plan to spend a day walking around San Francisco, too.

It’s always seems to strange to me that San Francisco can be so cool in the summer when it’s sweltering here in New England with all the snow we get the rest of the year. I love the boots paired with the girly skit and sweater. You almost look ready for fall. 🙂

The upshot of San Francisco being 50-60 degrees in the summer is that it’s the same in winter 😉 But our real summer should be here by September.
