30×30 #19: In Which I Channel Kelly Cutrone

(I call this series, “she who is touching the most gadgets, wins.”)

On whatever morning this was, I had neither the time nor the energy make a decision. I certainly didn’t have time for extras – there would no belted sweaters. As I was darting out of my apartment it occurred to me – this is how Kelly Cutrone dresses! If you ever watched her Bravo show Kell on Earth she always looked cool – always in black. It’s a functional uniform when you’re on the go, but can still be a canvas for your personality.

(She also wrote “If You Have To Cry, Go Outside” which I thoroughly enjoyed.)

Even though the outfit is very basic, there are still a couple of ways I made it more interesting. Instead of wearing black flats, I added some severity with lace-up booties. You can’t see them very well, but I’m wearing a ring and earrings. And the silver streaks in the black scarf added a layer of texture that was the cherry on top.

If this were Kelly Cutrone she would be wearing Helmut Lang, Ann Demeulemeester, and Azzedine Alaïa. Since I’m not a baller yet, here’s where I shop:

T-shirt – Gap
Pants – Adriano Goldschmied
Booties – Jeffrey Campbell
Scarf – bought in Morocco

  1. […] Channeling Kelly Cutrone – or any other black-clad power woman – is not just about wearing black. It’s about wearing black because you’re busy, and believe in what you’re doing. Not to be gloomy or angsty, but to feel like you’re making an impact – and looking good while you’re at it. This is not the only reason to wear black, of course, but on some days what inspires me to wear it. This particular day I was headed to a cafe to make headway on some personal projects, so I dressed like I meant business. […]
