Two very cool organizations are looking for designers from all backgrounds!
Discarded to Divine
An event that’s near and dear to me, Discarded to Divine is an annual benefit hosted by the St. Vincent de Paul Society. The organization provides discarded clothing which the designers use to create a piece to be auctioned off – and worn! Past designers include Project Runway alums Sweet P. and Jay Nicolas Sario; gr.dano, Jessica McClintock, Aurelio, Christopher Collins (on Project Runway season 8), Barbara Beccio, and Colleen Quen Couture, among others.
*Note: you do not need to live in San Francisco to participate.

**Update (Nov 11): Out of state designers do not need to be present to pick up clothing from the St. Vincent de Paul Society, but need to get inspiration from the Discarded to Divine website, and use 50% recycled materials in their garment. Email me at discarded2divine@gmail.com if you have questions.
Fashion Feud
Organized by the San Francisco Fashion and Merchants Alliance, Fashion Feud is like a real, live Project Runway. I attended the finale last year and it was amazing to see the amazing pieces people were able to create in just an hour!
*Note: you must live in the San Francisco Bay Area to participate, and you must have your own sewing machine.
To enter the competition email your contact info to: Owen Geronimo at sffama@gmail.com. Tell him you heard about it from the Fashionista Lab!
