Welcome to Season 8!
What’s with the extended introductions? First Heidi and Tim talk about the designers, then we see them meeting each other in pairs and groups of 3. They all have to meet each other anyway so I would have preferred they did it all at once instead of showing 2 people meet each other than watching a third person be introduced, then a 4th, etc. Let’s just get them all in the same room and get it all over with. I know the episode is 90 mins long, but I thought the point was seeing more of the design process, not the small talk.

They called the first challenge a try-out, but that’s inaccurate. If you’re on the season premiere, you’re on season 8. It’s not an audition, it’s just an elimination. Oh, the mind games have begun. Then Heidi asks them to choose a piece of clothing to feature in their outfit, then give to the stranger standing next to them! Sadly one of the guys gave up a $1070 pair of pants. Why did he bring those with him? The designers don’t go out! Plus, all outfits become the property of Lifetime, so he should have known he was never going to see them again. If he had seen a previous season he would have known that something always gets torn up in the first episode. Remember the season where they had to take materials from their bedrooms in the apartment, and at the end of the day they came back and they had no linens or pillows? Hah. The smart designers would have chosen their most raggedy piece of clothing.

Favorite line: “Yes you can! Embrace the broken zipper.” – Kristen
Vocab watch: “Wonky” – Mondo; he seems like an interesting dude, and I look forward to his future word choices.
Keeping my eye on: Christopher Collins, an SF designer!
Favorite designs:
Gretchen – the winner! I could see a lot of my SF fashionistas rocking this dress with unique accessories.
Kristen – this dress was the most visually arresting piece on the runway; beautiful and complicated, if over the top.
Andy – I adore the top/jacket combo and his head-to-toe styling.
What did you think of the 90 min episode? Who were your favorite designers?
