High & Low – Choosing Shades

I’m a novice when it comes to sunglasses. For many years I wouldn’t spend more than $10 on a pair because I always managed to sit on them, lose them, or sit on them and then lose them. Last year I upgraded to a $20 pair from Anthropologie, and after a week of tossing them carelessly into my bag, my new sunglasses met my keys and came out very, very scratched. A couple of months ago I splurged on a pair of $30 Cheap Monday sunglasses.

So far so good. No scratches, no lenses have popped out, and I haven’t sat on them.

A couple of days ago I saw a pair of beautiful vintage Dior sunglasses on Swirl (Daily Candy’s sample sale site), listed for $150.

I wanted, but I balked. $150 for a small pile of plastic?! I know a lot of designer sunglasses cost far more, but I never understood why people put up with that. Don’t get me wrong – these sunglasses were definitely tempting, but it would just feel silly. I’m sure someday I’ll be a baller and will think $150 for sunglasses is cheap, but for now I’m satisfied with my Cheap Mondays.

I find that because my Oakley’s are valuable I’m much much less likely to lose them. They come with a nice hard case and a soft cloth that’s good for storage in a backpack, etc. (in your case purse), and also is good for keeping them clean.

    Hi Adelle,
I am addicted to Sunglasses have tons of pairs with a few name brands sprinkled in there.it really is not about the price its the way they fit and the way they make you feel.
As for the scratching of the lens …. I’m known to put them on my head so not only no scratches but now a fashion accessory headband.
In my opinion sunglasses our like shoes..its another way to show off your personality.
So I guess back to the main question the price should have nothing to do with your choice.

What's your opinion?
