Initial Thoughts on SF Fashion VS NYC Fashion

I wasn’t that wild about what I wore today. I squandered my morning, so by the time I started getting ready I didn’t have much time, and just kind of threw this together. I tried something else first but it was too heavy to wear. I put this outfit on but I liked it less and less as the day went on. One problem is that I keep clothes that I’m either ambivalent or hopeful about, and really they’re just distractions – but that’s another topic for another day.

The second problem, and the whole point of this post, is that an outfit like this kind of feels out of place in New York. And this is, so far, is what I understand to be the difference between New York and San Francisco: San Francisco is whimsical, light-hearted, a little bit wild. New York is sober, serious, and very organized. When I first moved to San Francisco the city looked like a hodge-podge box of crayons; I had to get used to all the multi-colored houses. That kind of cityscape seems to lend itself to people also expressing themselves more variably. New York, on the other hand, is pretty homogenous. The city is mostly brick and brownstone, with a smattering of limestone here and there. There’s less deviance in the cityscape, and the spectrum of what people wear seems to be more narrow.

This was interesting to read! I live near SF and would never have guessed that NY is that different. Who would have thought?
