San Francisco Summer Survival Guide

Please enjoy this guest post from Elisabeth of mission:closet.

I’m Elisabeth from mission:closet and I’m starting to feel like summer really stood us up this year in San Francisco. Not a single heatwave yet and it’s already August! I’m a Bay Area native so I typically try to defend the crummy summer weather (“No mosquitos!”; “Fog is nature’s air conditioner!”), but this year I’m pretty down in the dumps about the cold. Thus I’ve created a San Francisco summer survival guide with some tips and a few key items for your wardrobe. I promise you’ll pull them out summer after summer here in the city by the Bay.

White denim – White jeans scream summer but still protect you from the elements. Try rolling them up for a relaxed look and add a pair of summer wedge sandals.Forget the black – I tend to avoid dark colors in the summer because they remind me of winter. When you’re feeling particularly blue about the cold weather, brighten things up with bold colors or pastels.

Maxi dresses – Like white denim, maxi dresses are a great way to keep your legs warm and still give off a summery vibe.

Open knit sweaters – A light-weight, open knit sweater is the perfect summer layer over a tank and your white jeans or maxi.

Cotton scarves – Stock up on summer scarves in fun prints from places like Madewell and H&M. You can’t have too many.

Emergency tights – I often throw a pair of tights or leggings in my bag for an extra layer when the sun goes down.

Suck it up – The sundresses in your closet need some love, so just brave the cold and break them out from time to time. You’ll probably freeze no matter what so you might as well look cute!
