Outfit: Going in a New Direction

Last week was both exciting and dismal. We had incredible weather – real summer weather – in San Francisco, and I produced my best self-photo shoot to-date. All great things. And then my computer died. Like, DIED. It was crashing on a regular basis so I took it to the IT experts at work who discovered that my hard drive was failing. My last back up was nine months prior, so I stood to lose a lot of files. And the photo shoot I was so excited about.

Miracle of miracles, the good folks in IT were able to transfer all of my files off the dead hard drive to a new computer. I lost a few meetings on my calendar, but it could have been so much worse! And so without further ado, here is the photo shoot that I almost lost.

I’m very excited that I finally figured out how to do self-shots outside.

You wouldn’t know it from most of the photos, but it was a bit of a blustery day. While setting up the shots my dress kept getting swept up to… inappropriate heights, yet every time I got in the frame the wind died down. Except for once.

The nicer the weather, the more difficult I find to exhibit “style”. For me, summer is all about sundresses and sandals; things like jackets, layers, and even excessive jewelry ruin the vibe for me. My challenge is personalizing the look with just a few key accessories. I received a lot of compliments on this outfit, so I guess I did ok!

I’m also really excited to be going in this new direction with my photos; having a tripod just gets better and better.

This is awesome! These really don’t look like self-shots, but rather an actual photo shoot with a photographer. The first and the last ones are my favourites! My own self-shots are so posed and lame; now that I’ve moved house though, I have a whole new backdrop to play with!

I love the third photo.. I know it’s posed but also looks candid.. that’s the hard part of self shoot. I think you did a great job!

Looove the dress on you. I tried it on at Anthro and it looked terrible on me. Hoooray for awesome IT folks!
