Friend Friday: Evolving Style

So this Friend Friday thing has become a “friend Friday, quite possibly Saturday, maybe even Sunday” thing. This week(end) we’re discussing some of the choices we make as fashion bloggers. How we’ve grown, and where we still want to go.

1.      Since you began blogging do you notice a change in the types of things you gravitate towards while shopping?

I gravitate more towards things that are intentional and statement-making…

But I think I do that for the same reason that I blog. Namely, both blogging and fashion are a means of self-expression, and the more I engage with them the more ideas I have.

2.      Do you find, as a fashion blogger, that you dress differently from your family and friends? Do they comment on that?

Hah! For sure. Again for me these things go hand-in-hand rather than one causing the other. It was my sustained interest in fashion that led me to blogging; if I didn’t have the desire to dress differently, I probably wouldn’t have the desire to write about it. Also, every time I see my dad he seems impressed at what I’m able to put together. He’s great to shop with!

3.      What’s the weirdest fashion that you secretly like, even if you aren’t bold enough to wear it?

I consider myself a bold dresser when it comes to colors and prints… but I’m not so bold when it comes to wearing heels.

There are so many amazing heels that I would love to rock, but being an urban dweller without a car, the practical side of me keeps holding back. I have bought exactly 3 pairs of stilettos in my lifetime: the first pair I was able to return, the second I can actually wear (it’s a miracle), the third pair is impossible; but it was final sale and now sits in my closet, taunting me.

4.      Looking at current trends – what would you like to try but need to build up the courage to do?

Shorts. Every year. I cannot bring myself to wear shorts.

5.      Toot someone’s horn – what fashion blogger out there inspires you with her bold fashion choices?

Lori of the now-defunct His Hers, and Blair of Atlantic-Pacific. I consider my styles as minimalist-bohemian (thanks Amanda Brooks!), but these two ladies go all out.
