Met Gala 2011: Red Carpet Round-up

I have very mixed feelings about the Met Gala red carpet this year. On one hand, I appreciated that hemlines ran the gamut from mini-dresses to gowns. I like it when there’s less of a uniform because then you get to see what people really want to wear. On the other hand, I didn’t feel inordinately wowed by the dresses. They were all pretty, but not necessarily interesting. After combing through 164 photos from New York Magazine, I ended up with about 25 that I liked. I could just be in strange mood, who knows. Check out my highlights and let me know what you thought of the red carpet. Who were your favorites?

Frieda Pinto in Chanel

I love this play on menswear in a supremely feminine form.

Joy Bryant in Missoni

Kudos to her for rocking a sweater-dress on the red carpet.

Dee Hilfiger in Tommy Hilfiger

The neckline reminds me of the feathers of an eagle or some other bird of prey, and for some reason I was really into that.

Elizabeth Banks in Tommy Hilfiger

I’m a sucker for a liquid gold gown. Some day, that will be me.

Dakota Fanning in Valentino

I’m just fascinated by this dress because the skirt looks like gaucho pants. Maybe if I stare at the photo enough she’ll start walking, and then I’ll know for sure.

Ginnifer Goodwin in Topshop

Futuristic dressing is often farcical, but she makes it fashionable.

Kerry Washington

Simple but stunning. And I love her hair.

Liv Tyler in Ricardo Tischi for Givenchy

This is how you do a swan dress. Bjork, take note.

Rosario Dawson

Black sequin perfection. The simple cut makes this class, not crass.

Demi Moore

I love the texture on this dress; digging her fascinator too!

Diana Taylor

Awesome print.

Crystal Renn in Zac Posen

Drama! Elegance! Glam! All in one piece. So excellent.

Serena Williams in Oscar de la Renta

Between the fascinator and pouffy white dress she could be going to her own royal wedding.

Isabel Lucas in Louis Vuitton

Not a fan of the thing on her head, but I love the dress.

Ashley Olsen in vintage Dior

SLEEVES!

Raquel Zimmerman in Alexander McQueen

The volume on this dress is so high I need earplugs. That’s a good thing.

Aimee Mullins in Theyskens

Behold: a very masterful mixing of prints. I love the different textures too.

Chanel Iman

Cute, classy and elegant.
