Porchlight SF

After seeing my piece in the Chronicle, Porchlight SF, San Francisco’s premiere storytelling series for eight years running, invited me to do a story at their March show (you can do a story too! See below). It was quite serendipitous that they had already chosen fashion as a theme. I was initially quite nervous, as I had never had to craft a story, memorize it, and then present it to an audience. When I was deciding what to wear I thought about a metallic little black dress – a little tight and slightly itchy – but then I thought, who am I kidding? I need to wear the least distracting thing I possibly can (while still looking awesome).

Hot color, beautiful dress. Sooo comfortable. I don’t wear it enough.

I told a story about losing a ring that was very near and dear to my heart. But how ultimately, losing that ring opened me up to trying something new, and finding my way to statement rings, which I now love to wear.

This is actually a story I’ve been wanting to tell on my blog, but I wanted to include snapshots of me wearing my special ring over the years. Getting those photos requires digging around a couple of different photo sharing sites I’ve used, as well as rooting out photos from an external hard drive with files from my old computer. I anticipate having to comb through hundreds of photos and so have been putting it off for months, but it is still something I’d like to do.

In the meantime… Join me for Porchlight’s Open Door show tomorrow, Monday March 28th at 7pm, at Hemlock Tavern. The Open Door, Porchlight’s version of an “open mic”, happens the 4th Monday of every month. This months topic is Ready to Wear: Stories About Fashion and Clothes. I’ll be getting back on stage to tell another story, and if YOU have a story to tell, I’d love for you to join me. Details here.

Great choice of story. I feel sad to have been part of the reason that you lost that ring (after all, you were out with me at the time), but glad that it’s led to some kind of silver lining (no pun intended). Best of luck with the photo hunt!
