Friend Friday is here again. This week’s topic: our behind-the-scenes accessories, a.k.a. gadgets!
1. What technology do you use in blogging? (computer, camera, video
camera, tripod, etc…)
Macbook computer, Sony CyberShot digital camera, and mini-tripod. Sometimes I also take photos with my Motorola Droid phone. My brother and sister gave me a joint Christmas present of the new camera and tripod. Later my sister asked me how they were working out and I told her that they changed my life. They’ve definitely improved my outfit shots!
2. What computer and online technology do you use? (blogging system, photo storage, photo editing tools, etc..)
Currently blogging on the WordPress.com platform, although I’d soon like to start using WordPress.org. I use iPhoto to upload and edit photos. A few months ago iPhoto stopped recognizing my Droid, so now I upload those photos through Picasa.
3. What is your process for taking pictures?
Process? Once I got the tripod I found a corner in my room without furniture and discovered that if I set the camera up on my desk, I had a decent little photo studio. To shoot the photos I whip out the tripod (I leave my camera attached), set the self-timer to 10 seconds and jump in the corner to do a few poses. Sometimes I use a feature that takes rapid-fire shots. It doesn’t work with a flash, but it produces fun photos like this:
4. When it comes to backdrops for your photos what do you consider? Do you scout locations or shoot the same spot daily?
A friend and I were JUST discussing backdrops the other day. My new backdrop is actually pretty boring – just a white wall. Although I did take photos in front of the fireplace last night! (outfit post forthcoming) During San Francisco’s indian summer I would sometimes grab a co-worker to shoot me outside, but that was dependent on finding a co-worker who wasn’t busy. I’m generally either working or commuting during daylight hours so it’s difficult to get more outside shots.
5. If you could splurge and get one new piece of equipment what would you be buying?
Nothing. Now that I have a camera with a tripod and functioning self-timer, I don’t need anything else!
