Outfit: Halloween

I always feel conflicted at Halloween. I want to participate and get really festive with my costume, but I’m actually quite horrible at costumes. Every year I just end up cobbling something together with the clothes in my closet; maybe acquiring a new costume piece every few years. When you use streetwear for your costume, things end up getting pretty conceptual. Case in point, last year I was “a modern interpretation of the life of Annette Funicello” (Original Mouseketeer turned 50’s teen icon turned Hollywood actress). Oh yeah.

This year I went as a sexy tomato (specifically for an “unexpectedly sexy” themed party), and a tube of glitter.

I tied up a green headband for the tomato stem.

While wearing a huge red sweater with bunches of tulle underneath is fine for a house party, I felt like I would need something more streamlined for bar-hopping. Enter the “tube” of glitter (remember, this is conceptual):

It’s hard to tell from the photos, but the shoes are sparkly as well. And I ended up putting on a glittery sash and make-up after the photos were taken.

You go through all this trouble when you already have the hair for a Janelle Monae costume! You must have some black and white suit-ish outfits in that big ol’ closet of yours, don’t you?
